Příspěvky z mezinárodní hudebněvědné konference, která se konala ve dnech 23.-26. srpna 2006 v Praze, jsou věnovány různým aspektům hudební kultury v českých zemích a roli střední Evropy v evropské hudební historii. Jednotlivé studie se zabývají prameny, notací, repertoárem, hudbou ve společnosti, hudební teorií, hudebními nástroji, vztahem hudby a liturgie a hudby a výtvarného umění v širším kontextu hudební kultury středověku a renesance.
